BSA706 Update

I'm having my first online class with BSA706
Online Classes - UTG -- Fantasy Sports and Gaming
Today, we are looking at the effects of Coronavirus in the animation/film industry
No, COVID-19 Coronavirus Was Not Bioengineered. Here's The ...
What's happening in the industry right now? How are people dealing with a pandemic?

Review the following slides for articles about how various areas of the entertainment industry are dealing with the worldwide pandemic

Are there any silver linings here? Is anybody working in a new way that interests you? Is something happening that surprises you?

Is there any aspect of the industry, as you currently know it, that you don't think can function under current restrictions ie. Social distancing, work from home, shelter in place, no access to off-shore production, etc.

We are not meeting in real time but you should contribute to the discussion through the discord channel while we are under Level 3 and holding online classes. This research should also go onto your blog for Week 8

Answering the questions with my own statement
  • Some companies are releasing some products/courses for much cheaper
  • Some things are not available for others, as it can be a risk to produce (dubbing/subbing films)
  • There have never been so many people using gaming platforms/watching films and streams
  • Some shows/films are doing really badly (no more than 10 people in a place) (shows based in public places)
  • Animators are way less affected by this pandemic (just no meeting at the office and working alone). Working from home is no problem
  • Many films/animations are being delayed
Disney's SWOT
What Does A Recession Mean for Disney? | The Motley Fool
Strengths
  • The monopoly owners
  • They own everything and cannot be defected
  • Well known everywhere
  • Great films for kids and has lots of films
  • A large range of themes (StarWars, Frozen, Marvel, etc)

Weaknesses
  • Like monopoly, own everything but, it can also be spit up
  • Tend to make everything pretty and clean, perfect and beautiful
  • Disneyland = Not open
  • Might 'Disneyify' other well known franchises (Some don't like StarWars, etc etc)

Opportunities
  • They can become like monopoly, control the industry with their big, power
  • Everyone knows them so they are successful with just their name
  • Can get aboard the streaming world (I've seen some Olaf shorts about staying safe and home/what kids can do at home)
  • DisneyPlus was well planned
  • They are earning lots

Threats
  • Piracy. Being monopoly, they could collapse under their power
  • Other companies
  • Disney stealing others work (getting a bad name for themselves)
  • Others might want to take Disney down, because they are the 'biggest', so they would want to take them down
  • Copyright (time's nearly up for them)

Now that Disney is done, I will look into another company with this model

Studio Colorido's SWOT
Studio Colorido - Wikiwand
This is a Japanese Company, that is known for hiring young (early twenties), foreign and experienced people. I first found this company, due to the fact that they hire a lot of young people in their twenties, then other companies wouldn't give them much of a chance. They do Web-series, Movies, and TV shows (they did the McDonalds Web-series)

Here are some images of some movies they made

Lo nuevo de Studio Colorido | Amantes Del Studio Ghibli Amino

Strengths
  • Hiring young, foreign and many different types of people
  • They expand their range of ideas to others
  • They do a lot of web-series, so if they can't get started on a film, they have something to fall back onto
  • They are capable of producing films (means they are not as small as others would think)
  • Its a new company compared to others
  • Uses newer software, techniques (including Storyboard Pro)
  • More people will be going online so the web-series can become more popular

Weaknesses
  • Hiring younger and foreign people can lead to problems like training, language and lack of identity within the film (is it Japan made)
  • Not a major power/well known company. Will struggle to work on handling project online (file sharing)
  • The traditional work (paper animation) will struggle to be shared
  • Getting behind in protection on the upcoming film 'The film cover with the girl holding the cat mask'

Opportunities
  • Newer people, new ideas, new techniques so different/unique results
  • Creating Web-Series means they have lots of work to work on, even if films cannot be released, also getting more followers
  • With younger people, they can be more adaptable to new things, meaning they can work from home with the Internet's help

Threats
  • The major companies are more well known, meaning it can be hard to get a following for their work
  • The unique works/techniques are not receiving well
  • Web-series are not as popular as movies or TV shows
  • Less funding, due to the virus
  • Online chats can only do so much
I will now show the class what I've done :) (I hope I did it right)
