Africa. What we watched today
Today was catching up on Africa, less about info and more watching what they captured on camera
First up is an Egypt show. Albernameg - Bassem Youssef S03E01
Within this show, Bassem Youssef mentioned the politics, riots, war and many important events within Egypt. He is best known for laughing and picking on the president and politics. He started out in 2011 after the Tahrir Square riot on his YouTube
Speaking up about it within his show did have consequences. He relocated to the US after being accused of distributing the peace. "The major difference is the margin of freedom with your work and the media" - Bassem Youssef
Bassem Youssef could have been killed or imprisoned for his work if he had not left the country when he did
Ramy Essam
An Egyptian Rockstar. He sang his song 'Irhal' in 2011 during the Tahrir Square riot
He got exiled and went to Sweden. His music video has animation within it 'El Gahsh Wel Homar'. It's interesting
He still creates political music 'Balaha'
Shady Habash
An Egpytian film-maker who died recently from drinking hand sanitiser inside his prison cell a month ago
He was imprisoned for being in the making of a political film, about the real thing within the country
He was only 24 years old
Queen Sono
This is Netflix's first fully produced series from Africa
The show's creator is Kagiso Lediga
It was a very cool show based around a female spy Queen Sono. Queen Sono's mother was shot dead in front of her when she was a child. She doesn't always follow the rules but will do her best in whatever she does and protects everything she is passionate about
We just watched the first the first episode. It looks really cool. There is fighting, spy, love, drama and mystery. A great series
