Europe and Media part 1
Europe and Media part 1
What do all these films have in common?
They're based on European films. They are all US remakes
Why remake a great film of TV show?
- Traditionally, the English-speaking market has not liked reading subtitles
- Producers and studios may also demand "translation" into a more culturally understandable property
- (This happens to Australian and New Zealand shows, to see "Kath and Kim" and "Outrageous Fortune"
- Netflix has poured massive resources into dubbing, or "localizing", their content for markets worldwide
- Many shows are now offered in multiple languages and with subtitles
- For example, German TV shows "Dark" and "Nailed it: Germany"
- This push has made original content available around the world and for audiences to experience their creator's work as it was originally intended
